Of the 55 public libraries in Nassau County, 18 have undergone extensive renovations since 2000. In Nassau, for example, public library visits increased 8.7 percent from 2000 to 2003, when the new wave of construction closed some buildings and relocated others; in Suffolk, visits increased 9.4 percent from 2001 to 2005.
