The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trent Lee Stewart was awarded the 2008 MockNewbery Medal by the 19 members of the Northport-East Northport Public Library Newbery Club who attended the Tuesday January 8 meeting.

Club members praised the book for its original plot, unusual characters and it’s satisfying “Hollywood ending.” Supporters of the book also enjoyed
the many surprises and the page-turning, suspenseful storyline.

A MockNewbery Honor was given to:

The Night Tourist by Katherine Marsh

Club members thought the well described New York City underworld was a perfect setting for this story. They enjoyed the references to Greek mythology and felt sympathy for the characters.

The actual Newbery Medal winner will be announced on January 14, 2008.
