Savvy by Ingrid Law was discussed at our June meeting. Mibs Beaumont is about to become a teenager. As if that prospect weren’t scary enough, thirteen is when a Beaumont’s savvy strikes—and with one brother who causes hurricanes and another who creates electricity, her savvy promises to be outrageous…and positively thrilling. Club members liked the writing style, and almost everyone enjoyed its originality, creativity, and clever characters.

The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry was discussed at our May meeting. Abandoned by their ill-humored parents to the care of an odious nanny, Tim, the twins, Barnaby A and Barnaby B, and their sister, Jane, attempts to fufill their roles as good old fashioned children. Some club members the book was derivative of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Some thought the book got off to a slow start, but as the pace picked up, all enjoyed the humor, vocabulary and the references to other books. Everyone though the glossary was funny. The book is a recommended read for all club members.

Eleven by Patricia Reilly Giff was discussed at our April Meeting. With the help of his new friend, Caroline, Sam pieces together the secrets of his past. Club members discussed the interesting characters and unraveled the plot elements. We will discuss this book again when more club members have an opportunity to read it.
