August 1st Registration
 
 
 

Registration for the following programs begins Tuesday, August 1 at the NORTHPORT  PUBLIC LIBRARY.  Limit of one program per child on the first day of each registration.  Your library card is required at registration.

Art Smart: Mosaics
Children ages 4-6 with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Wednesday, August 9, 10:00 a.m.
Art teacher Cheryl Frey Richards provides the history of Roman and Byzantine mosaics while the children design and grout their own mosaic made of glass squares. (90 min.)

Music, Mommy, and Me
Children birth-3 years with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Thursday, August 10, 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
A Certified music therapist demonstrates the importance of music in child development through a variety of fun activities. (45 min.)

Magic Workshop
Children entering grade 4
(EN) Thursday, August 10, 3:00 p.m.
Children’s Librarian and professional magician James Plath teaches kids amazing tricks that they can perform themselves. (60 min.)

Picture Book Art:  Elmer the Elephant
Children entering grades K-2
(N) Friday, August 11, 10:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.
Kids create their own version of the loveable character from David McKee’s popular picture book Elmer. (60 min.)

Treasures from the Sea
Children entering grades 3-5
(EN) Friday, August 11, 3:30 p.m.
Educator Martha Simpson incorporates science lessons while children design their own treasures using seashells collected from Long Island beaches. (60 min.)

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
All are welcome; suggested for ages 4 and up
(EN) Saturday, August 12, 2:00 p.m.
Come in out of the summer heat and enjoy Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild on the big screen. The plucky mouse, based on the character from the E.B. White classic children’s book, has quite the adventure when his family takes a camping trip. (75 min.)

Book Babies
Pre-walkers with adult; no siblings
(N) Monday, August 14, 10:00 a.m.
Enjoy reciting nursery rhymes and reading board books with your little one and a Children’s Librarian. (30 min.)

How to Choose the Right Pet
Children entering grades K-6; adults and siblings welcome
(N) Monday, August 14, 2:00 p.m.
Meet interesting reptiles, rodents, and birds, as pet experts from Peticular Pet describe the care involved in owning these animals. (60 min.)

Book Buddies
Children ages 4-6
(N)  Tuesday, August 15, 10:30 a.m.
Teen volunteers will read specially selected books to your child one-on-one or in small groups. (30 min)

Llamas in the Library
Children entering grades 2-5
(N) Tuesday, August 15, 2:00 p.m.
Get up close and personal with a llama family from the Cornell Cooperative farm.
(60 min.)

Dream Castle
Children ages 3-5 with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Wednesday, August 16, 10:00 a.m.
Parents and kids will enjoy making a paper castle together with the help of educator Jeanne Hall. (45 min.)

Summer Salon Day
Children entering grades 1-5
(N) Wednesday, August 16, 3:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.
Make an appointment to have your fingernails and toenails polished by our teen volunteers. Be sure to wear open-toed sandals. (30 min.)

Magic Workshop
Children entering grade 3
(EN) Thursday, August 17, 3:00 p.m.
Learn to perform astonishing tricks from Children’s Librarian and professional magician James Plath. (60 min.)

Boogie with Bugs
Children birth-5 years with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Thursday, August 17, 7:00 p.m.
Don’t let the bedbugs bite while you spend the evening listening to songs about the insects of summer performed by Dara Linthwaite. (45 min.)

Art Smart:  Sculpture
Children entering grades 2-5
(N) Friday, August 18, 2:00 p.m.
Learn all about the history of sculpture from art teacher Cheryl Frey Richards, while you carve your own work of art out of a block of “soap” stone. (90 min.)

Pajama Storytime
Children ages 3 and up with adult
(N) Friday, August 18, 7:00 p.m.
Cozy up with your teddy bear and listen to some great bedtime stories. (30 min.)

Family Fun Time
Children ages 1-3 with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Saturday, August 19, 10:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy a creative play environment as your child explores a variety of toy stations.
(60 min.)

Board Game Bonanza
Children entering grades K-5
(N) Monday, August 21, 3:00 p.m.
Monopoly, Clue, Checkers, Life…come play your favorite board game and meet new friends.  (60 min.)

Children who have completed the Summer Reading Club requirements will be issued tickets to:

TREASURE PALOOZA
(N) Monday, August 7, 3:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 8, 11:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.

This PetraPuppets production stars ventriloquist and puppeteer Steve Petruzzella and a cast of outrageous characters: Julius Sneezer, Gus the Security Turtle, King Doofus III, and Scully the Yapping Treasure Map. Kids are sure to enjoy this hilarious puppet show which features illusions, props, music, and audience participation. (45 min.)

Children (preschool through grade 6) may join the reading clubs throughout the summer at either the East Northport or Northport Library. During the first week, (June 19-24) children may share one book they have read. Throughout the summer, children may share books they have read and receive stickers and prizes. Please pick up a schedule of all the summer programs.
