Registration for the following programs begins Wednesday, July 19 at the NORTHPORT  PUBLIC LIBRARY.  Limit of one program per child on the first day of each registration.  Your library card is required at registration.

Adventures in Rhythm
Children birth-3 years with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Thursday, July 27, 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
Share action stories and use rhythm instruments in this interactive class for you and your child. (30 min.)

Crafty Kids—Create-a-Plate
Children entering grades K-2
(N) Thursday, July 27, 2:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.
Design your own dinnerware and set your table in style.  (60 min.)

Family Fun Time
Children ages 1-3 with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Friday, July 28, 10:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy a creative play environment as your child explores a variety of toy stations.
(60 min.)

Sound Sensations
Children entering grades 1-4
(N) Friday, July 28, 2:00 p.m. or 3:15 p.m.
Brookhaven National Laboratory Science Learning Center educators will allow children to experience vibrations and sound in a whole new way. (60 min.)

Chess for Beginners
Children entering grades 2-5
(EN) Saturday, July 29, 10:00 a.m.
Learn the basics from chess master John Koliner. (60 min.)

Intermediate Chess
Children entering grades 2-5
(EN) Saturday, July 29, 11:30 a.m.
John Koliner will teach players strategies and help them improve their chess skills. 
(60 min.)

Silly Song Sing-a-Long
Children ages 3 and up; adults and siblings welcome
(N) Monday, July 31, 10:00 a.m.
Children are encouraged to come dressed in crazy mixed up outfits and join in the fun of silly songs and dances with Karen Jordan. (45 min.)

Strike Up the Band
Children birth-5 years with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Wednesday, August 2, 10:00 a.m.
Play instruments and join the marching band with music educator Dara Linthwaite.      (45 min.)

Back to School Portfolio
Children entering grades 1-3
(EN) Wednesday, August 2, 2:00 p.m.
Personalize your own plastic folder, perfect for holding important school papers, with the help of professional crafter Shirley Ruby. (60 min.)

It’s About Slime
Children entering grades K-2
(EN) Thursday, August 3, 10:00 a.m.
Kids will pour, measure, stir, and knead to create non-toxic quicksand, silly slime, and even edible goo while they learn about liquids and solids from educator Jo-Ann Tiranno. (60 min.)

Magic Workshop
Children entering grade 5
(EN) Thursday, August 3, 3:00 p.m.
Learn to perform amazing tricks from Children’s Librarian and professional magician James Plath. (60 min.)

Fun with Music
Children ages 2-4 with adult, siblings welcome

Enjoy moving to the music of classic children’s songs with educators Helen Dixon and Mindy Labriola. (45 min.)

Fun with Poetry
Children entering grades 4-6
(EN) Friday, August 4, 3:00 p.m.
Celebrate poetry with entertaining activities and Children’s Librarian Christine Farrugia. (90 min.)

King or Queen for a Day
Children ages 3-5; adults and siblings welcome
(N) Saturday, August 5, 10:00 a.m.
Visit several craft stations to create everything you need for a royal costume:  tiara, crown, cloak, scepter, and shield. (60 min.)

Open for Discussion:  Parent/Child Book Group
Children entering grades 4-6 with adult; no siblings
(EN) Tuesday, August 15, 7:30 p.m.
Join Children’s Librarian Lisa Herskowitz in a stimulating discussion of The City of Ember. Twelve-year-olds Lina and Doon deal with life in a post-apocalyptic underground world where resources are running out, in this intriguing science fiction novel by Jeanne Duprau. Participants will receive a copy of the book to keep. (75 min.)

Children (preschool through grade 6) may join the reading clubs throughout the summer at either the East Northport or Northport Library. During the first week, (June 19-24) children may share one book they have read. Throughout the summer, children may share books they have read and receive stickers and prizes. Please pick up a schedule of all the summer programs.
