June 24th Registration
 
 
 

Registration for the following programs begins Saturday, June 24 at the NORTHPORT  PUBLIC LIBRARY.  Limit of one program per child on the first day of each registration.  Your library card is required at registration.

Saturday Afternoon at the Movies
All are welcome; suggested for ages 4 and up
(N) Saturday, July 1, 2:00 p.m.
Come out of the summer heat and enjoy Bambi II on the big screen. This new direct-to- video Disney movie is the vibrant story of the beloved deer growing up and learning the ways of the forest from his father. No registration required. (75 min.)

Book Babies
Pre-walkers with adult; no siblings
(N) Monday, July 3, 10:00 a.m.
A children’s librarian will lead as you recite nursery rhymes and read board books with your little one. (30 min.)

Beachcomber Storycraft
Children entering grades 1-3
(EN) Monday, July 3, 2:00 p.m.
Kids will create a framed beach scene while listening to some great summer stories.     (60 min.)

Sing Along with Irv
Children ages 2-6 with adult; siblings welcome
(N)  Wednesday, July 5, 10:00 a.m.
Professional singer, Irv Plastock leads children and their parents in a lively sing-along featuring many popular children’s songs. (45 min.)

Big Ideas for Little Ears
Children ages 4-7; adults and siblings welcome
(N) Thursday, July 6, 10:30 a.m.
Singer/songwriter Patricia Shih’s concert includes sign language, movement, and props, as well as a unique community service element.  Each child attending is asked to bring a can of food for the Northport Food Pantry. (45 min.)

Crafty Kids—Name That Wall
Children entering grades K-2
(N) Thursday, July 6, 2:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.
Create and decorate the letters in your name that you can display on the wall of your bedroom. (60 min.)

Pajama Storytime
Children ages 3 and up with adult
(N) Friday, July 7, 7:00 p.m.
Children may wear their PJs and bring their teddy bears to listen to some great stories. No registration required. (30 min.)

Books Alive—Kings and Queens
Children ages 2-5 with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Saturday, July 8, 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
Lee Knight gets adults and kids singing, dancing, and improvising as royal characters from familiar books come alive through music. (45 min.)

Build Your Own Castle
Children ages 3-5 with adult; siblings welcome
(EN) Monday, July 10, 10:30 a.m.
Art teacher Doris Benter helps families create a cardboard castle with windows, turrets and even a drawbridge. (60 min.)

Dragon Pennant
Children ages 3-5, with adult; siblings welcome
(N) Tuesday, July 11, 10:00 a.m.
Design a decorative wall hanging suitable for any castle with educator Jeanne Hall.      (45 min.)

Panning for Gold
Children entering grades 3-6
(EN)  Tuesday, July 11, 3:00 p.m.
Cornell Cooperative educators will be the trail guides, as children experience the journey  westward in search of gold. (60 min.)

Ladybug Picnic
Children ages 18 months-3 years with adult; no siblings
(N) Wednesday, July 12, 10:00 a.m.
Fitness Educator Beth Hagadorn gets you and your child moving with music and theater games at a pretend picnic. (45 min.)

Investigate the physical phenomena of sunken treasures and sculpt your own shipwreck with educators from the Long Island Children’s Museum. (60 min.)

Adventures in Rhythm
 Children birth-3years with adult; siblings welcome
(N)  Thursday, July 13, 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
Share action stories and use rhythm instruments in this interactive class for energetic toddlers. (30 min.)

Crafty Kids—Yarn Painting
Children entering grades 3-5
(N)  Thursday, July, 13, 2:00 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.
Kids will create personal masterpieces using yarn instead of paint. (60 min.)

Music, Mommy, and Me
Children birth-3 years with adult, siblings welcome
(N) Friday, July 14, 10:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
A certified music therapist demonstrates the importance of music in child development through a variety of fun activities. (45 min.)

Beat Box Workshop
Children entering grades 4-6
(EN) Friday, July 14, 3:00 p.m.
Jester Jim teaches you how to make the sounds of drums, turntables and other effects using nothing but your mouth to create hip hop, rock, and blues beats. (45 min.)

Open for Discussion: Parent/Child Book Group
Children entering grades 4-6 with adult, no siblings
(EN) Wednesday, July 19, 7:30 p.m.
Children’s Librarian Lisa Herskowitz will lead parents and their children in a discussion of Riding Freedom by Pam Munoz Ryan.  This historical novel is based on the fascinating true story of Charlotte “One-Eyed Charley” Parkhurst, a women who lived her life disguised as a man so that she could be a stagecoach driver.  Participants will receive a copy of the book to keep.  (75 min.)

Children (preschool through grade 6) may join the reading clubs throughout the summer at either the East Northport or Northport Library. During the first week, (June 19-24) children may share one book they have read. Throughout the summer, children may share books they have read and receive stickers and prizes. Please pick up a schedule of all the summer programs.
