Apply for a Library Card

At the Circulation Center you may apply for a new card, replace a lost one, or update your current card. Library cards are free of charge to all residents and taxpayers of Northport-East Northport School District #4. You will need to fill out an application and provide two forms of valid identification, such as a driver's license, car registration, checkbook or current utility bill with your name and mailing address.

Click here for more information about obtaining a library card.

Report Lost or Stolen Cards

If your card is lost or stolen, please notify the Circulation Center immediately. There is a $2 replacement charge for an adult card and a $1 replacement charge for a child's card.

Pay your fines online

Patrons that owe $5.00 or more that view their patron record from home, or on the Internet stations in the library, will see the new “Pay Your Library Fees Online” button.
You will now be able to pay with your Visa and MasterCard credit cards and receive an email confirmation. This service uses encrypted and secure E-commerce technology and is in use throughout the Suffolk County libraries.

Requesting Items

Call, come in person, or use your library card barcode and PIN to request an item either in our library or from other libraries in Suffolk County. In the library, holds may be placed at the Reference Desk, the Children's Reference Desk, the Circulation Center or online for the library catalog.

When using the library catalog you can request an item using your library barcode and PIN. When the item you are interested in comes up on the screen, click on the “Request Item” icon at the top of the screen. It will ask for your barcode and Pin number. Once entered, your request will be submitted and you will be called by a member of the library staff when the item is available for pick-up.

Freezing Items

You can “freeze’ a request, allowing you to delay delivery of requested items for your convenience. The hold will not be filled, but you will not lose your place in the hold cue.

This item is available when you “view your record” and appears under the listing of items that you have on “hold”.

You must unfreeze the item for it to be filled.

Renewing Items

If you need more time, most materials may be renewed. Items can be renewed at the Circulation Center, online through the library's website and by phone. Items cannot be renewed if there is a waiting list, if there is a renewal limit or the item is overdue. Contact Circulation for renewing overdue items.

Rating Items

Patrons can now “rate” items that they have borrowed using a five-star rating system.

This item is available when you “view your record” and appears when you search the catalog from the screen.

You may also review or delete your ratings by choosing the “My Ratings” link in the “view your record” screen.

Returning Library Materials

When you have finished with your library materials, they can be dropped off at the Circulation Center in either library building, or you can use the convenient book drops available outside each building.

Overdue Items

If you have an fine to pay, bring in the item and your library card. You will be asked to pay the fine at that time.

Inter-Library Loan

If you cannot find the particular book or item you need within our library, the Adult, Teen or Children's Reference librarians will try to borrow it for you from another library. When the material arrives, you will be notified and it will be held at the Circulation Center. Most interlibrary loans can be renewed.

Library Card Barcode

The library barcode is located on the back of your library card. With your library barcode you can view your library record; request, reserve, and renew items; access the county collection of computer databases (the Virtual Reference Collection); or access computer databases exclusive to patrons of the Northport-East Northport Public Library.

Password

You need to create a password to access your library record. Click on the View Your Own Patron Record link. You will be asked to enter your library barcode found on the back of your library card. Choose the submit button without entering any password information and you will be able to create your own unique password.

Passwords can be changed when you view your library record. If you have forgotten your password, or have trouble, you may have it deleted so you can create a new password. Please go to the library Circulation Center for assistance

Using your library barcode and Password you will be able to view a list of items that you currently have checked out, items you have requested, fines you may owe and your reading history.
