Lisa Herskowitz – Biography

I was a proud member of the NENPL staff for over 25 years. I started out as an intern and concluded my career as the Head of Children and Family Services. I left a position that I was dedicated to in order to help raise my grandson, which I am thoroughly enjoying. However, my desire to advocate for the library has not diminished in retirement. Serving on the Library Board of Trustees allows me to remain an active part of the Library and continue to contribute to our community.

Living in Northport for forty years and seeing my two sons complete their K-12 education in the Northport-East Northport public schools has been such a joy. I served as President of the Ocean Avenue PTA as well as held Executive Board positions at Northport Middle School and Northport High School. I was President for four years of the Children’s Librarians Association of Suffolk County (CLASC) and have served on various committees in the Suffolk County Library Association (SCLA) and the American Library Association (ALA).

I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English from Adelphi University and Masters of Library and Information Science from Long Island University at C.W. Post. Prior to becoming a librarian, I was the Managing Editor of a small Manhattan publishing company. I have been a devoted library user since childhood and I have participated in a monthly book club for 38 years.
