Art & Architecture

Your Library is home to a variety of paintings, posters, sculptures, mixed media, and photographs for your enjoyment. The Library galleries feature works of artistic and cultural interest and are often enhanced with talks given by the artists.

A county-wide resource, the Library's renowned collection of books, magazines, auction catalogs, and online databases serves the professional, student, and amateur equally. Designated a subject specialty center for art and architecture in the 1960s, the Northport Public Library continues its commitment to maintaining a comprehensive collection.

In 1961, the Northport Public Library became the “art library” when the Suffolk Cooperative Library System organized a plan for subject specialization among its public library members. The Northport Library’s outstanding collection encompasses a vast selection of topics and time periods in print, media, and electronic formats. Rounding out the collection are materials on art theory and history, artist biographies, museums, schools, and trends.

The art of craft takes shape in many forms. In addition to basic “how to” guides for the hobbyist, the collection includes buyers’ guides and handbooks on the development and exhibition of crafts.

The Library’s art magazines cover up-to-date information on trends, exhibits and shows, art auction data, emerging artists, and more.

Named for the library architect, The George E. Beatty, Jr. Architecture Collection features books on American architecture, notable architects, professional standards, dictionaries, and encyclopedias. The Library’s commitment toward building the architecture collection was facilitated with generous contributions from individuals as well as the Friends of the Northport-East Northport Public Library
